From Curious to Coming Home - What Really Happens on a Reiki 1st Degree Course
Maybe you've been thinking about this for months, maybe years even, and there's something which keeps tugging at you, pulling you toward Reiki, an often gentle (but sometimes extremely knowing) instinct that it's meant for you, and yet you haven't taken the step.
Perhaps you've had treatments and loved them. Perhaps you've never experienced Reiki at all, but something in you just knows. Or perhaps life has handed you a heavy load recently, all of that anxiety & grief, your body feels out of sync with itself, and you're hoping this might help… Not just as a skill, no - but as something FOR YOU.
If any of that sounds familiar, I’ve written this for you.
What happens when you walk through the door
A little about many of the women who book onto my Reiki 1st Degree courses.
Most of them arrive nervous, and it’s not just those first-day/trying something new nerves, it runs much much deeper. Some are carrying grief, some managing anxiety or a dysregulated nervous system (can we get a holla?). Whereas some have spent years absorbing everyone else's energy and running on empty themselves, and some have never felt like they truly belonged anywhere.
And yet they have something in common - each one of them booked - because each one of them kept feeling this innate calling.
When you arrive at my home for 1st Degree, you're welcomed by name, there's a hug at the door. I prepare fresh fruit and herbal tea’s are on the table. Slippers are always encouraged. We have no rush in this moment.
For the first 30 to 60 minutes we simply sit together, a small group of women, and we talk. We share our journeys, our reasons for being here, the things that led us to this room. It feels less like the beginning of a course and more like the beginning of a women's circle. Because in many ways, that's exactly what it is. Our bond is forming.
One of my Master Teacher students, Carrie, she’d never had Reiki before she booked, she’d also never met me. But she tells this story which warms my insides. She says that every single time she comes back here, for whatever reason, and even now three years and all three levels later - her body feels like it's come home.
That's what I want for every woman who walks through my door.
What the two days actually look like
1st Degree is a 2-day in-person course held at my home in Northwich. Across those 2-days you'll learn the history and foundations of Reiki, receive your 1st Degree attunements (all 4 of them 😉), learn how to give a full Reiki treatment, and practice on each other in a safe, supported space.
But that’s just the boring curriculum, right… it’s almost secondary to what actually happens over the 2-days.
Who arrives? Strangers. Who leaves? Something else entirely. You see, the magic that happens when you bring together a small group of women who are all (in their own way) on a healing journey, coming back to themselves. It’s held within the conversations, in what surface’s, and in the 1:1 moments where we’re doing your attunement & the other women are sharing their attunement experiences.
You leave 1st Degree with a qualification. But you also leave with: a sense of yourself, a tool that is entirely yours, and more often than not, a group of women you didn't know you were going to find.
The trio
This story is one of my favourites, it lives rent free in my memory, and it’s a story of three women from a recent 1st Degree course.
One of them had connected with me through a Warrington Wellbeing Festival group chat. We'd got chatting about Reiki and she booked. When she arrived, she noticed one of the other women looked familiar, turns out their careers had crossed paths (there’s seriously no escaping this small world, right), yet the third woman had no connection to either of them whatsoever.
I had a room of three completely different women. Different ages, different lives, different journeys that had brought each of them to my living room on the same weekend.
But now? They now have their own whatsapp group chat outside of our community group. They hosted an equinox evening at one of their homes, and they've all booked the same 2nd Degree course together. I don’t think anything quite describes ‘find your tribe’ as much as that!
So you see, this is what I mean when I say Reiki 1st Degree is about more than learning a skill… Because sometimes it's about finding your people, in the room or in the community. It’s finding the women you didn't know you were looking for, and I know it in my bones because that’s what I found through Reiki too.
What women (and Dave) say after
"Katy loved her 1st Degree so much she immediately booked her 2nd Degree!"
"Tracy — just wow!!!!"
"Nikki said what makes Ashleigh stand out most is Ashleigh herself."
"Nichola came to me first as a client for treatments, trained to 1st Degree, and walked out feeling like she was walking on clouds."
"Dave came to me as a client, trained through all three levels, and is now a Reiki Master Teacher."
These aren't unusual outcomes, they're what happens when the right women find their way to the right space.
The pathway: where 1st Degree can take you
1st Degree is your foundational level, it’s a must for this journey and it qualifies you to give Reiki treatments to yourself, your family, and your friends.
From there, 2nd Degree deepens your practice and qualifies you to work professionally with clients, you can be an insured practitioner and start doing this for your job!
For anyone who feels called to teach 3rd Degree, Master Teacher, is where you step fully into your own.
I've genuinely watched women (and a few males, I’ll add) journey through all three degrees into something they couldn't have even comprehended when they nervously walked through my door on that very first morning, and this is the norm here, so very far removed from unusual.
Current dates and spaces
I currently have 2 spaces remaining on my 1-2 August 1st Degree course, and 1 space on my 8-9 August Master Teacher course.
My 2nd Degree dates are fully booked, which tells you everything you need to know about what happens once women start.
If August doesn't work for you, I have 2 spaces available on my 19-20 September 1st Degree course, otherwise Q4 dates are coming, so reach out and we'll find the right fit.
Ready to take the step?
If something in this blog has spoken to you, it’s been on your mind for a while, or perhaps something in you just knows, then I'd love to hear from you.
You don't need to have had Reiki before. You don't need to know anyone.
You just need to show up.
Send me a message and we can have a natter, find the right date, answer any questions you may have, and make sure this feels right for you before you commit to anything.
You never know… your body might just feel like it's come home 🫶🏼
